Meet Kamal
Kamal Fernandez is a world-renowned dog trainer, coach, speaker and author, with over 33 years of experience in the world of dogs and dog training. He has dedicated his life to promoting the use of reinforcement-based methodology to train dogs from unruly pets to Crifts winners. His current dogs that he owns include a Belgian Malinois, Border Collies, a Germa Spitz, a Boxer and Sugarpuff – his resuce Jack Russel x Poodle.
Kamal started training in 1991 after getting Scrunch, an independent free-willed Chow-Chow mix. Like many other first-time dog owners, Kamal found himself in for a rude awakening when he got her… Lassie, she most definitely was not! You name it, Scrunch did it – running away, biting, resource guarding, nervous aggression – Scrunch did it all!
Kamal has been invited to speak at conferences and deliver seminars all over the world including the Lemonade Conference for FDSA and the Victoria Stillwell Bite Prevention Conference. He’s also made numerous television appearances, both in front of and behind the camera, on shows such as The One Show, Dogs Behaving badly, The Underdog Show, Lewis, and most recently, Channel 4’s The Dog Academy. Kamal was also a feature trainer on Sky Television’s ‘Dog’s Might Fly’, where he helped 12 rescue dogs learn to ‘fly a plane’.

Kamal is the author of two acclaimed books – ‘Pathway to Positivity’ and ‘Relabelling Reactivity’. He’s been a presenter at Clicker Expo, as well as a keynote speaker at the Out Of Control Dog Summit, Decoding Your Canine Summit, and the Ding Bat Dogs Border Collie Summit.
He has coached the Australian and New Zealand Crufts World Cup teams, the IGP World team members, and an FCI Agility team member.
Other career highlights include being a guest speaker on Susan Garret’s ‘Dogsthat’ podcast, being a keynote speaker at the IMPACT Conference, a Championship Obedience judge and Crufts competitor, and an instructor for the Fenzi Dog Sport Academy.
This thirst for knowledge combined with his job as a police officer, working with young offenders and studying psychology has contributed to his dynamic and innovative teaching style and his ability to get the best from his pupils, be they human or canine!
Kamal is a true expert in his field, and is passionate and dedicated to sharing his knowledge with fellow dog lovers all over the world.
